GENDER disparity is evident in many societies worldwide, where women receive the shorter end of the stick. Women leadership is no exception. How can society achieve gender parity? What can be done?
In Step Up, Ms Anju Jain provides a coherent framework and incisive strategies to increase the visibility of women. Strategies include increasing your productivity, building your brand, creating work-life balance, and meeting your goals amongst others.
At the core, women have to onboard themselves to what they want and where they want to be. This requires defining their vision, committing to it, and negotiating with the self to pursue it diligently. Once clear about what they want, they have to align their stakeholders (family and organisation or personal networks) to the same in order to champion and support them in their journey.
Peppered with anecdotes from key leaders, Step Up includes candid interviews with middle to senior management professionals on their challenges, fears, and lessons learnt.
Ms Anju shows that it is indeed possible to have your cake and eat it too—that is all right for women to ask for what they need without feeling guilty and consigning themselves to conditions that zap their happiness and sense of fulfilment.
The book’s message (like its title) is simple. It is about being yourself, taking charge of your future, stepping up, doing so intentionally, and enlisting the help of others in the quest for a cohesive self-actualisation.
