Authentic Leadership—Building a Value-based Authentic Leadership Brand
By Ronald Tan Lian Huat and Hubert Rampersad

Read if You Strive to be an Authentic Leader
THIS book is a relatively quick read at less than 150 pages. Made up of the author’s experience as a leader for about 30 years as well as what he has learnt from various management gurus like Mr John Maxwell, among others, and programmes like SIM’s Job of the Chief Executive (JOCE).
The plus about the book is that there are numerous examples based on Dr Tan’s personal experiences which increases its authenticity. The downside was the size of a number of the graphs in the book as they strained the eyes when you tried to read it, which frustrated me as a reader. It also read too much like an extended dissertation paper. I would rather read something from The Harvard Business Review or from a journal from the Academy of Management.
If being authentic is something you aspire towards as a leader, consider reading this as it will help give you some clarity. However, if you are looking at picking up a book to learn more about leadership in general, there are many others in the market.
