Get into the Mind of a Marketing Guru

THIS book is obviously aimed more at marketers than anyone else however, some of the insights shared are useful and can be applied to various people. One of the key things that Mr Godin highlights is the importance of identifying your smallest yet most viable audience so as to be better able to identify as to how to position what you’re trying to sell or market.

Another key tactic that he highlights is that of building trust with your target markets. Finally, ensure that the narratives that you share with your target markets help to better understand where they stand in terms of status and dominance. He doesn’t just say these things to describe his book, he actually lists down various ways to achieve this.

His aim as he shares is to stop basing connections with how your social media performs. This is what many marketers assume is the best way to get attention. If they get X number of likes that means that they have marketed their products or services successfully. Hold your horses people, that is not necessarily the case. Most importantly, he provides tools to help people achieve their goals and hopefully better understand various marketing tactics and how they evolve.

Ultimately, I felt that this book does not need to be read just by marketers. In fact, anyone within the company can read it so as to find different ways to better understand their target markets. All you need to do is look through the chapters or even pages within the chapters and there is bound to be something that you will find that is beneficial. The various philosophical ideas or even best practices that Mr Godin shares in the book are rather helpful and can be applicable to most readers.
